Choose the Right Growing Medium

Confused by compost choices? Keep it simple—think about where and what you're planting:

  • Borders or beds? Add soil improvers like composted bark or manure to enrich existing soil.

  • Pots and containers? Use a multi‑purpose compost—or for long‑term containers, mix it 50:50 with a soil‑based compost (e.g., John Innes No 3) for sustained nutrition.

  • Acid‑loving plants? Choose ericaceous compost for blueberries, rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias—this ensures the correct pH.

  • Sowing seeds or taking cuttings? Seed composts are fine‑textured and low in nutrients for gentle rooting; repot into multi‑purpose compost once seedlings have grown
